Okay, so someone ran over my four month old kitten, Monolith [link] last night (or early this morning). We found him stuck halfway through the front gate with a big gash in his forehead. The poor little guy tried to crawl back home! My boss gave me a few hours off to bury him and recover from the shock (she is so nice, even offering to let me bury Monny at her dad's house if I didn't have a place to bury him), but when I got home my aunt had another shock for me. She said her and my neighbor (walking her dog, Daisy) were outside when a lady saw my other cat, Loki crossing the street. She said that the woman accelerated and tried to hit Loki, and then my neighbor's dog!! Loki has a collar and Daisy was on her leash! Of course, they both started yelling at her to stop, so the lady reversed and tried to pick a fight with them! The neighbor called the police, who then listened to both of their stories, and even came into our yard to look at Monny's grave. Apparently this really upset him because he owns two cats himself. I don't know all the details, or what the woman's response was, but she was ticketed for speeding, and a couple of other things. Our neighbor said she heard something about the lady having to appear in court.

Who the heck would intentionally try to hit an animal, especially one that obviously has an owner?!! And it wasn't like Daisy was running loose, she was on her leash! I can't say that she was the one who killed Monny, because we have several people that speed down our street. I'd like to believe that it was just an accident, but we do have people who also shoot any cat they see (we just haven't been able to figure out who is doing it). Either way, I hope she thinks twice next time.

My aunt has to put down her 13 year old cat tomorrow so I'm sure she is feeling the same - I'm sorry for your loss, being a pet parent has its downs. My mom saw one of her cats get its back broken by a dog before, so she never lets cats outside anymore.

Thank you, and it sure does. :hug:It was a huge shock because in my 33 years, I have never had any of my pets run over before.

How is your aunt doing? Her poor kitty! I know it will be quite a while before she feels better, but tell her to hang in there!

I'm not sure how she is today, but yesterday she was pretty upset and got half a day off of work (Her boss is very nice for that). Of course it's normal, and it will take a while for her to feel better, and she had that cat for the cat's whole life. But it's always nice to know that when sick pets get put to sleep, it's better than having them suffer. Her cat had cancer and just wouldn't eat anymore, and hadn't been the same since one of her other cats had to be put to sleep.

How are you doing? I still feel awful about hearing about it. Some people are just so cruel. Then again, you never know if it could have been an accident - But it seems like that woman had something to do with it.

At least your aunt had hold on to that little glimmer of happiness. She did what was best for her cat, and made sure it didn't suffer. And she had 13 years of joy(always a bonus, but it makes it even harder to let go)!

I had to make the same decision with my dog two years ago. He was only five when we took him in for a suspected bladder infection. He did great and made a full recovery on his meds, but two days after he finished them, he stopped eating and started bleeding again. We took him back right away and the vet found the mass. I got the bad news that afternoon and it wasn't a type of cancer that could be fixed. I had to make the decision over the phone at work and didn't even get to say goodbye. My one consolation is that I had him for five good years and I did what was best for him.

I'm doing okay, still really sad, but trying to stay positive. My sister and I planted a mexican shrimp plant on Monolith's grave, since he was always laying in them. I hope it really was an accident! That woman does make me very suspicious though.

At least you did what was best for your dog!

And I think that's a thoughtful gesture :meow:

That woman needs to go to jail. She's probably killed a lot of people's pets like that! People like that make me want to train an army of parrots to hunt and attack people in the act of abusing animals. (It'd be the Parrot Patrol!)

Sorry about your kitty, though. :(

I would support the Parrot Patrol!! I don't know how some people can do that.

It's okay. I was actually able to sleep last night, and even felt hungry today, so I guess I'm feeling better. It will take me a while though.
